2008 Exhibition Is Upon Us!

27th July 2008

Each year the Devon Furniture Makers stage an exhibition of work and this summer will be showing at Dartington College of Arts Gallery from August 1st - 10th 2008. The Gallery is located in the ground of the beautiful Dartington Hall Estate in South Devon. Dartington Estate is an impressive setting and well worth a visit, so please do come and see our work.

We have previously exhibited at Exeter Cathedral Chapter House in July 2005 and 2006 and at Dartington in August 2007. Each exhibition attracted hundreds of visitors and for each of the exhibitions in 2005-2007 we were sponsored by Aston Martin Grange of Exeter. The majority of the pieces exhibited are for sale and each designer will be available to show off their portfolios and discuss possible commissions.  For our 2008 exhibition we are proud to announce our new sponsor, Bridge Motorcycles - Exeter, who will attend with a display of fabulous Triumph motorcycles. "We are delighted to be associated with this exhibition" says Earl Richmond, the Triumph Franchise Manager at Bridge Motorcycles.  “Triumphs are a British made, top quality product and Triumph are constantly developing new designs and technologies whilst remembering what was best about our old bikes. You only have to look at the quality, design and craftsmanship of the Devon Furniture Makers' work to see the similarities.”

The Devon Furniture Makers will also be taking a stand at the well-established Bovey Tracey Contemporary Craft Fair from June 6th - 8th 2008, where you will be able to meet some of our members and see some beautiful examples of their work.

The Devon Furniture Makers Association was formed to promote the work of professional furniture makers operating throughout the county. All are self-employed and work largely on their own designing and making furniture to the highest standards. Their work is primarily to commission for both private and corporate clients and covers the whole range of domestic furniture. Typically, they will create bespoke one-off items of furniture or small batches of exclusive designs. Commissions come from every part of the country - and some come from abroad - although a large percentage of the work is for local clients.

Items are made from both native and imported hardwoods and care is taken to ensure these originate from legitimate and sustainable sources. Indeed, if at all possible makers like to use the beautiful timber grown here in Devon. The exhibition will be open to the public from 10.00 – 18.00 from the 2nd to the 10th August, with a private view held on the evening of Friday 1st August. There will be no entrance charge. If you would like information on the private viewing for the exhibition at Dartington Hall then please feel free to contact us.
