Natasha Gowdy

I have been making furniture since 1993 and work to commission as well as making pieces for exhibitions. I work entirely in hardwoods and favour indigenous species, particularly oak, ash, elm and cherry. We have a woodstore full of seasoning timber, all local Devon trees, and it is very satisfying to convert this renewable raw material into useful, enduring pieces of furniture.

My designs are modern with clean, simple lines, whilst the techniques I use are rooted in traditional fine furniture making: hand cut joints and natural finishes. The timber itself is crucial to the design as are subtle details that give the piece unity.
